JAMESTOWN, N.D (AP) - An exchange student from India who vanished from southeastern North Dakota more than a week ago is safe.
Collette Mathern is the host mother for 16-year-old Harman Singh. She says he called her from Fergus Falls, Minn., on Sunday, and is now with authorities in Jamestown.
He hitchhiked from Edgeley and spent the night at a shelter in Moorhead, Minnesota.
The LaMoure County sheriff's department says the teen is in protective custody and could be sent back to India.
He disappeared May 16th, after returning to Edgeley from a school track meet.
Mathern says Singh wanted to prove that he could make it on his own, but eventually realized he made a mistake.
