Storms pushing in from west trigger warnings

Associated Press - June 19, 2009 1:35 AM ET

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Storms pushing in from the west set off weather warnings across southern Wisconsin Thursday evening, including a tornado watch in effect until the early morning hours in the southwest and south central parts of the state.

The National Weather Service reported heavy rain Thursday night caused flash flooding at Dodgeville in Iowa County, where high winds knocked down trees at Ridgeway. Other parts of southern Wisconsin also reported street flooding, and some areas received hail as storms moved through.

The weather service said thunderstorms could be severe as they continue into Friday in the west and south, with scattered storms also likely in the northeast and a chance of them in the northwest as well.

With warm and humid conditions predicted Friday, there also will be a continuing chance of storm activity.

Partly cloudy skies are forecast Saturday and Sunday.
