KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) - A former Kenosha high school scholarship athlete has died after a 10-day illness.

Eighteen-year-old Sam Schissel was found unresponsive at his family's home in Somers Saturday and was rushed to Kenosha Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Family members say Schissel had been taking antibiotics. He reportedly had suffered from flu- or pneumonia-like symptoms.

Schissel pitched the 2008 Bradford High School baseball team to a state title by collecting 2 of the three victories in the tournament.

Schissel won a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Minnesota. He transferred to Carthage College in Kenosha during his freshman year.
