Census Bureau has new population estimates

Associated Press - June 30, 2009 7:44 AM ET

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Twin Cities area has been 1 of the faster growing spots in the United States outside the Sun Belt in recent years, and the Census Bureau will soon report if that trend continued in 2008.

The bureau is scheduled to report its 2008 estimates for city populations late Tuesday in Minnesota.

The 2007 estimates showed that Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, St. Louis Park and Edina and other first-ring suburbs had grown. At the same time, growth was tapering off in some of the newer suburbs farther from the Twin Cities.

Nationally, in 2007 New York remained the largest city with 8.3 million residents, followed by Los Angeles and Chicago.
