ONALASKA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Every child in the La Crosse area will have a chance to play on a baseball team, despite their challenges or disabilities.
The YMCA's miracle field is officially under construction.
The ceremony took place indoors because of the rain Friday... but the grounds of the field will be located directly west of the YMCA North facility in Onalaska.
The project is not only a baseball field, but an entire environment suited for special needs children. Included is a rubberized synthetic turf for wheelchairs and walkers and accessible dugouts and bleachers.
Tom Rand and his grandson Wyatt raised more than $18,000 and can't wait to "play ball."
Rand says, "It's great, and we have such great support! We are looking forward to the field,. I have six grandsons and they're all special. All five want to play ball with Wyatt! What better way than on this Miracle Field?"
The field should be ready in sixty days. The field surpassed its fundraising needs, so the extra money will now be used to purchase uniforms and special sports equipment.
