64-year-old man's body pulled from grasses near Coon Creek

COON VALLEY, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- Vernon County authorities pulled a man's body from some tall grasses near Cook Creek Thursday afternoon.  Officials believe the man's death is linked to his medical history and not foul play.

64-year-old John Robert Buckley was last seen around 11:30 Monday night.

Jeff Olsen owns a farm nearby and found Buckley's body, but he declined to go on camera.

He says his wife saw an abandoned bike on Tuesday near his home and thought nothing of it.

When he heard there was a search party with a bike in question, he went out and found Buckley's body in the grass.

The Vernon County Sheriff's Department says Buckley has no family in the area.

He just moved here in May, and he only had one close friend to notify.

Chief Deputy Jim Hanson says, "We officers get put in the position of notifying; including parents of kids killed on the highway from time to time.  I can honestly tell you, there's no such thing as a routine when it comes to that."

Buckley's friends and neighbors say he liked to go fly fishing and for late-night bike rides.

When officers searched his apartment, they noticed his fishing pole and bike were missing.  That's when they decided to search the creek.
