Kandiyohi County bill to target homecoming pranks

Associated Press - August 19, 2009 9:24 AM ET

WILLMAR, Minn. (AP) - Kandiyohi (kan-dee-YOH'-hy) County authorities are considering a measure that would help police deal with homecoming pranks.

The county board of commissioners agreed Tuesday to hold a public hearing on the matter on Sept. 1.

The amendment is partly in response to a case last year involving a man who was repeatedly victimized by homecoming vandals. When about 30 people gathered to allegedly toilet-paper his house, he doused them with a squirt gun filled with fox urine.

The proposed measure would target students who vandalize homes using items such as shaving cream, paint, eggs and toilet paper.

It would allow violators to be charged with a petty misdemeanor of trespassing for the purpose of littering, carrying a maximum fine of $300.
