Authorities say sex offender fighting extradition

Associated Press - August 25, 2009 4:35 PM ET

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) - Ramsey County officials say a convicted sex offender wanted in Wisconsin is fighting a return to that state.

Authorities say Eric Affolter was arrested Monday night in Edmore after a tip.

Prosecutor Lonnie Olson says Affolter barricaded himself in his house and claimed a heart condition. He says Affolter was treated overnight in Devils Lake and appeared in court Tuesday morning.

Olson said Affolter is a convicted sex offender wanted by authorities in Pierce County, Wis. He said the fugitive apparently was living across the street from a school and had been going door to door in Edmore seeking odd jobs for cash.

Affolter told Judge Donovan Foughty that he wanted "a fresh start." The judge set bail at $25,000 cash pending an extradition hearing.
