NORTHWOOD, IA (KTTC-DT) There is a special corn maze in Iowa that is designed to take guests to Paris!
Eight years ago, owner Bryn Pangburn attended a three-day seminar in Madison, Wisconsin on how to design corn mazes.
Since then it has become a passion.
"We have a different theme every year," says Pangburn.
The North Star Corn Maze, located in Northwood, Iowa, takes guests on a tour of Paris, France.
"It's played a scavenger hunt where there are 15 stations to find in the maze," says Pangburn.
Participants are given a map to lead them through the corn maze.
At each station, guests find trivia and a dummy dressed up like a person from France.
"Some of our characters are Nostradamus, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Hunchback of Notre Dame," says Pangburn.
In past years, Pangburn's themes have included the wild wild west, the deep blue sea and even the Civil War.
"People had said how about a tour of New York City or how about Paris? And I have an 8-year-old daughter who thought Paris sounded pretty exciting so we decided to go with Paris this year," says Pangurn.
Pangburn says the most popular time to go "mazing" is in the evening, guests can bring flashlights and search for the stations in the dark
"And as you tour around hopefully you'll get a glimpse of what it might be like to be in Paris or a little taste of it anyway," adds Pangburn.
She says it takes months to prepare the corn maze, but every year it's worth it.
"The maze has become a passion you get very attached to something that you put that much work into and that much effort, and it's become a wonderful addition to a small family farm," says Pangburn.
An addition that is 12-acres of twist and turns, dead ends, and nearly five miles of trails all relating to Paris.
