Local ghost hunter shares experiences

EYOTA, MN (KTTC-DT) With Halloween a few weeks away, there's a renewed interest in hit TV shows like "Ghost Hunters," "Paranormal State," and "The Ghost Whisperer."

That interest is growing in southern Minnesota, especially with the help of one woman.

A local ghost hunter took us to an abandoned grave site in the Dover-Eyota area where a presence of some sort can definitely felt.

It's a subject matter people either run toward or run away from, "Most people have ghost stories, and some of them are really quite incredible!" says ghost hunter Nancy Horvath-Zurn, of Rochester.

At the age of seven, Nancy says she had her first encounter with an unexplainable presence, "And woke up in the middle of the night, and saw this huge glowing, white figure, and I just knew as a child from Bible stories and such that this was an angel."

Since then, she's had a lifetime filled with spirit-encounters. About a year and a half ago, Nancy took a trip to her hometown of Pennsylvania where she toured the nearby Mansfield Reformatory in Ohio-said to be one of the most haunted places in our country.

She took photos, and it wasn't until later that she realized what she had experienced.

"In the center of the shot there is this green energy light, and over to the far left are two goldish light colored figures that appear to be trying to apparate," says Nancy.

Nancy calls herself a medium, and investigates places like this abandoned graveyard in the Dover-Eyota area.

"This is not typical for all paranormal investigators, but I would pull out my douching rods. Douching rods usually point to water, but they are also known to detect spiritual activity that might be going on," says Nancy.

She uses the equipment to sniff out of the environment.

It's Nancy's background that she says makes her ghost hunting so rare.

"I've been credentialed clergy for the past 19 years. In the Christian church this tends to be a bit taboo either it's something that we don't really talk about or it's considered witchcraft or sorcery," says Nancy.

Even at a young age, Nancy says she knew she had "gifts." It's only recently that she's decided to share her insights with others.
