MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The state Assembly is poised to consider a bill that would exempt a western Wisconsin theater from property taxes.
The measure would spare nonprofit performing arts theaters within 20 miles of the Mississippi River from property taxes.
The only theater that fits that criteria is the La Crosse Community Theater. According to a fiscal estimate, the bill would save that theater about $5,000 year in property taxes.
Rep. Jennifer Shilling, a La Crosse Democrat, wrote the bill. The Assembly is expected to take it up Tuesday.
