Fit Friday's: Strengthen your back

If you wake up with a back-ache, you're not alone.  According to the American Chiropractic Association, as many as 80-percent of the population will experience a back problem at some point during their life.

In our first "Fit Friday" report, we've got a couple of simple back exercises that you can do at home to stay walking tall and pain free. 

Exercises performed:

  • Plank- Start standing, walk out with hands to plank position
  • Bird Dog- from plank position raising leg and arm together
  • 1. Modification: knees on floor
  • Knee Drop Downs (abdominal exercise) - from plank drop knees to floor
  • Side Plank
  • 2. Modification: knee on floor
  • Swimming on stomach
  • Airplane/superman on stomach

Exercise Prescription: For the exercises listed above, do 2-3 sets of 8 - 12 repetitions or hold for 15-30 seconds. If you choose, these exercises can be done in succession or individually.
