Eau Claire (WQOW) - A playground dedication at a Jackson County shelter aims to raise awareness of domestic abuse.
On Wednesday, a ribbon-cutting was held for the Alisha Sidie Memorial Playground at the Bolton Refuge House in Merrillan. Alisha was killed by her ex-husband, Doug Sidie, last fall. After hearing about the murder, two Black River Falls High School students spear-headed an effort to raise awareness of domestic abuse by raising more than $6,000 for the playground.
"For that young of boys to understand domestic and do what they did, that's a generation that's going to make a big difference," says Alisha's mother Susan Rowlee.
The boys also gave a presentation to their high school on domestic violence. Other high schools have contacted them to give that presentation at their school.
