
La Crosse, WI (WXOW) - More people are demanding cheap housing in La Crosse.
Six months ago housing authority had 125 people on their waiting list to move into their low income housing, now that number has jumped to 192.
The economy has people deciding to stay longer than originally planed.
Rhonda Olsen is a mother of four.
Currently she is a full time student at Viterbo University.
And an employee at Caring Heart Home care.
She has been living in a Housing Authority duplex for three-years.
Rhonda Olsen said, "I couldn't afford to give my children the life style I give them if I had to pay 700 or 800 out in the real world. The rent I pay here helps me live a better life style for all of us." They adjust rent to the tenants needs. People in the program only pay 30% of their income. If they lose their job, or their hours are cut, their rent goes down.
