
La Crosse, WI (WXOW)- A government task force is offering breast examination advice that runs against the position of the American Cancer Society.
The task force say most women don't need a mammogram in their 40s and should get one every 2 years starting at 50.
The panel of doctors and scientist say that getting screened for breast cancer so early can lead to false positives and unneeded biopsies.
The new guidelines were issued by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.
Franciscan Skemp and Gundersen Lutheran reject the new guidelines.
The healthcare provides recommend women get screened every year starting at the age of 40.
Even earlier if women have a family history of breast cancer.
The Director of the Breast Clinic at Mayo Clinic in Rochester said everyday they discover invasive breast cancer in women ages 40 to 50.
