MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A Minneapolis police dog died after falling from a roof during a search for a burglary suspect Monday.
Police say officers in the first precinct were called to a burglary in progress about 7 a.m. They found evidence the suspect was still in the building of a former car dealership.
Officer Eric Lukes and dog, Chase, were searching the roof of the three-story building when the dog fell to the ground. The dog was taken to the University of Minnesota for treatment, but could not be saved.
Police say Chase has been in service since 2007 and has worked thousands of hours.
Three suspects in the burglary have been arrested.
