Tomah, WI (WXOW) - The city of Tomah will meet to decided what can be done with a 61 acre plot of land right in the heart of town.
The redevelopment project has been in the works now for 15 months.
Currently a piece of the property is being used by the Canadian Pacific Railroad but the remaining land has been vacant for decades.
The city would like to turn the plot into a business district. Options include a technology campus, a food industry, a wellness village which would be used for senior housing and possibly a fitness center. And an entry point for all visitors and military personal.
Principal Planner Scott Harrington said, "The Amtrak station is sort of old, not very well maintained and not well located. By bringing it onto this site and hopefully brining it with High Speed Rail in the future could really be an economic advantage. It could also serve as a gateway to visitors in the region whether they are coming for cranberries, the Amish country, the fall colors, whatever it might be it would be a great jumping off point in this region."
The redevelopment project is projected to increase Tomah's population 340 by 20-13.
