PLAINVIEW, Minn. (KTTC-DT) -- A proposed high power transmission project called CapX 2020 has had its share of controversy.
And people continue to speak up.
The proposed line would run about 90 miles along Minnesota near Hampton to a North Rochester substation, then continue east toward Kellogg and all the way into LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Project developers say the lines are being proposed for a number of reasons.
According to state documents, electricity consumption in Minnesota has nearly doubled since 1980.
Developers say the lines will benefit the entire state, but not everyone is happy about it.
"People that have been on this river and the young ones that won't see what we have today. Because it will affect the habitat. It will affect the aesthetics of the river and it will ruin a beautiful piece that Minnesota has," says Susann Rolfing of northwest Rochester.
