VERNON COUNTY, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- The 32nd annual Vernon County Dairy Breakfast will be held at Fro-Hock Farms owned by Gerald Schumacher on Saturday June 5, 2010. The Schumacher family will host the event at the farm, which is located just 14 miles southwest of Viroqua on Hwy 82. The breakfast menu includes eggs, pancakes, sausage, orange juice and a full array of dairy products. The event is sponsored by the Vernon County Dairy Promotion Committee and is held to celebrate June Dairy month.
From Viroqua: Take Hwy 14 south 2 miles. Turn west (right) on Hwy 27/82. Take Hwy 27/82 west 7 miles. Turn west (right) on Hwy 82. Continue on Hwy 82 west 5½ miles to E. Old 82 Avenue. Veer right on E. Old 82 Avenue, the farm is on the right. From DeSoto: Take Hwy 82 east 9½ miles to E. Old 82 Avenue. Turn left on E. Old 82 Avenue, the farm is on the right. A shuttle bus service will be available for those who do not wish to drive to the event. Parking and pickup for the shuttle will be at the Sterling Town Hall, just 3 miles east of the farm on Hwy 82. The shuttle will continue to deliver people to and from the breakfast for the entire duration of the event.
The dairy breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. and the official program begins at 8:00 a.m. and continues throughout the morning. The Schumacher family will be introduced and deliver a welcome to their farm describing their operation. The program will feature the coronation of the Vernon County dairy princess. Local royalty representing our area festivals and events will be introduced; including the Vernon County's reining dairy princess. Gary "Ole" Thompson and Charlie Fischer, co-chairmen for the dairy breakfast, will also speak.
The entertainment stage will feature Jimmy John and Jay and The Grilled Cheese Experience. In addition, there will be door prize drawings, an antique tractor display, local celebrities, and a chance to view the farm.
The attendees of the breakfast will enjoy a home-cooked meal consisting of scrambled eggs, sausage; pancakes; orange juice; cheese; cottage cheese; yogurt; applesauce; milk; coffee; and frozen custard. During the four hours of breakfast, over 3000 eggs, 165 gallons of milk, 125 gallons of orange juice, 700 pounds of cheese, 3000 sausage links, 400 pounds of pancake mix and 180 pounds of butter will be consumed.
