Doyle wins 94th Assembly Race

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - After 16 years, a Democrat once again holds office representing the 94th Assembly District.

Steve Doyle, current La Crosse County Board Chairman, defeated John Lautz by a 54-46 percent margin.  The unofficial vote totals showed Doyle receiving 8,658 votes to 7,475 votes for the Republican challenger.

In an interview with News 19 Tuesday night, Doyle says in the next few months, he does plan to step down as Board Chairman.  He did say he wanted to serve the remainder of his term, which runs until next April.

The 94th Assembly seat was held by Republican Mike Huebsch since 1994.  He left office earlier this year to join Governor Walker's administration.  It was the only race where Democrats gained a seat, although they still remain in the minority.

Two other special elections also took place in Wisconsin Tuesday.  Both seats in the 60th and 83rd Assembly Districts remained in Republican hands.

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - With all but a few precincts left to report, it appears that Democrat Steve Doyle is headed to Madison to represent the 94th Assembly District.

Doyle holds a 54-46 percent lead over Republican John Lautz with two precincts remaining to be tallied.

The results mean that the seat, which was in Republican hands since 1994, will be the only one of three special races Tuesday that switches parties.

The other two seats, in the 60th and 83rd Districts, remain in GOP control.

Democrats still remain the minority in the Assembly.

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The polls have closed, and the count gets underway to determine who is the next Representative in the 94th Assembly District.

Voter turnout is expected to be heavy in the 26 precincts that comprise the district.  Earlier this afternoon, La Crosse County Clerk Ginny Dankmeyer said that the polls were 'busy and steady'.

The 94th Assembly District is mostly in La Crosse County, although a small segment of Monroe County is also in the district.

Democratic candidate Steve Doyle is in Onalaska tonight with a gathering at the Seven Bridges Restaurant.

Republican challenger John Lautz is in his hometown of West Salem, at an event at the Westview Inn.

Both are after the seat formerly held by Republican Mike Huebsch, who left office to become the head of the Department of Administration.

We will have results here on as they come in.  We will have reaction from the candidates tonight on the 10pm Report.
