LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)
Panthers are typically found in South America, some sightings even reported in Florida but could one be living here?
This is home video shot this morning by a La Crescent woman who spotted what appears to be a large black cat.
Floshelle Brewster took this video of the animal from her backyard.
Her neighbors first spotted it about two months ago.
They have seen huge paw prints.
The animal appears to weigh around thirty pounds.
She says it looks like a black panther.
"I was skeptical. Then more and more people said they saw it or the paw prints. Then I saw it this morning in real life, and I couldn't believe it," says Brewster.
We contacted the Minnesota DNR, they say its highly unlikely that the animal is a black panther.
They say it could be a dark faced cougar.
Two cougars were reported in Duluth, Minnesota just last week.
They say a cougar could have traveled to this area from the Dakotas.
