Winona, MN (WXOW)-Smoking is banned on the campus of Winona State University.
This means no smoking or tobacco use of any kind will be allowed anywhere withing campus boundaries, both indoors and outdoors.
Before, smokers were allowed to smoke at least twenty-five feet away from university buildings.
The University says the new policy is to promote a healthier work environment for students.
"I can understand buildings and I can understand public transportation. I get all that, I understand the concept behind that, but we've got a campus here with wide open areas. It just seems a bit much," says Winona State student, Jon Jacob.
Winona State will be the second smoke-free campus. Minnesota State University in Moorhead went tobacco-free last January.
