MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A 34-year-old woman is critically injured after a Hennepin County sheriff's deputy broadsided her car while responding to an emergency call on Christmas.
Minnesota State Patrol Captain Matt Langer says deputy Jason Majeski was driving on 93rd Ave. around 1:40 p.m. Friday when he got to the intersection of West Broadway Ave. near Highway 169 in Brooklyn Park.
The 37-year-old had the emergency lights on his Chevy Tahoe, when he broadsided a Hyundai Elantra driven by Jolene Vassallo of Minneapolis. She was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.
The impact sent Vassallo's car spinning into a third car. The 48-year-old driver and his 38-year-old passenger had minor injuries. Sheriff spokeswoman Tracey Martin says the deputy was treated and released from a local hospital. His K-9 was uninjured.
Langer told KARE-TV that the State Patrol is investigating what color the signal lights were at the time of the crash.
