MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A Baptist college in northeastern Wisconsin is appealing the state's decision to make its students ineligible for grants and loans.
Northland International University in Dunbar wants the Higher Educational Aids Board to allow its 600 undergraduate students from Wisconsin to qualify for the Wisconsin Tuition Grant and other aid.
Agency staff denied the school's request because it is accredited by an association of Christian colleges and not the association used by most schools in the region.
The school has appealed to the agency's board, saying the accreditor is recognized by the federal government.
The board is expected to make a final decision this fall but students will not receive any aid this year.
