LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)- One of the biggest struggles for deployed soldiers is staying in contact with their loved ones.
News 19 was able to connect a local soldier from the 32nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion currently stationed in Iraq with his wife from Onalaska through satellite technology.
Through the help of satellite, Trina Barnett could speak to her husband stationed thousands of miles away.
As Jonathan is away, Trina carries on without him, raising their two children.
She says the hardest part is day to day activities.
Trina Barnett says, "Getting them to bed, dropping them off at daycare that kind of stuff. Everyday things you don't think about."
Despite the distance, Trina says she tries to keep thoughts of Jonathan close to three year old Joshua and one year old Ainsley.
Joshua was born last time Jonathan was deployed.
Jonathan's National Guard unit arrived in Iraq in May.
They are expected back home early next year.
Trina says she has a good support system of family in Baraboo, Wisconsin and extended family in the area.
This is Jonathan's second deployment.
The first Lieutenant plans to attend law school at the University of Wisconsin when he returns from Iraq.
Jonathan and Trina met in Concert Choir at University Wisconsin La Crosse.
Jonathan's youngest brother Mike is also in his unit.
