La Crosse, WI (WXOW)- For decades, Ray Hutson Chevrolet Nissan dealership served customers looking to buy cars.
"My dad started in Chevrolet in 1953 located downtown then built the building that's currently here in 1967 and then acquired Nissan in 1985, " says Mike Hutson, owner of Ray Hutson dealership.
On Saturday, the dealership auctioned off their fixed assets.
"Staplers to chairs, to items in our service department. Items like the paint booth in the body shop -just everything we have purchased to help us do the business. We don't have a need for them," adds Hutson.
General Motors made the announcement months ago that it would close about 1,100 dealerships around the country.
About 400 buyers walked from room to room looking to buy items up for auction, equipment and products purchased over the many years of business.
"I can remember riding up here with my dad and buying a new farm truck in 1971. I was just alittle kid, rode home on the hump between the seats," says Owner of Sleepy Hollow Auto in Viroqua, LaVon Felton.
For former employees it was a hard sight to see.
"You work so hard to generate revenue off of those products and to see them kind of evaporate it's sad," says Terry Russell.
Ray Hutson will continue a used car business in what was formally the Nissan building.
The used car dealership is open for business.
