Onalaska police department shows off their newest member

Onalaska, WI (WXOW)- The Onalaska Police Department introduced its newest member of the police force on Wednesday.

Its name is "PC" the robotic patrol car.

The robot entertained and educated a crowd of 1st grade classes from Irving Pertzsch Elementary School in the Onalaska City Hall.

The robotic car is painted to resemble an Onlaska squad car.

It's operated by an officer.

The patrol car can do some fancy tricks like flashing its lights and turning on its siren and occasionally squirt water at the kids.

Although PC is fun for the children, it serves as an educational tool.

PC teaches children about the dangers of strangers and how they should never get into a car with someone they do not know.

Chief Jeff Trotnic from the Onalaska Police Department plans to have PC out with the D.A.R.E. Program and other initiatives designed to break down barriers between the police and children.

PC will make an appearance at Home Depot Safety Days on October 24th. Children IDs will be isued and PC will be spreading safety messages.

The patrol car is made possible by a grant from the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Wisconsin.
