Technology allows deployed soldier to view childrens program

SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW)- A local elementary school honors veterans including one very special soldier today thanks to the science of technology.

Lawrence Lawson Elementary School hosted a Veteran's Day program today.

Students were asked to invite veterans to the program so they could be recognized.

But for one family, getting some recognition for a loved one of theirs took a little bit of technical help.

That's because Carla Davis' husband Captain Myron Davis and father of her three children, couldn't attend the school's Veterans Day program in person.

 And for very good reason.

Carla says, "My husband is with the 732nd CSSB which is a combat sustainment support battalion acting out of Tomah, Wisconsin National Guard Unit and is located in South Iraq."

But through the science of technology, the father far away could see his children up close.

The family was reunited through Skype, a software program that allows users to make video and voice calls to other Skype users.

Captain Davis could enjoy the Veteran's Day program at Lawrence Lawson School from his front row seat in Iraq.

Carla believes her husband's tour of duty will be over this spring.

This isn't the first time the family has used Skype.

They actually try and Skype every Sunday.
