WI Report: Transportation needs more $$$

MADISON, Wisconsin (AP) - The state Department of Transportation says in its 20-year plan released this week that federal economic stimulus money does not solve immediate or long-term funding needs.

The report says that the state's highway trust fund will need significant increases beyond what the stimulus can provide.

The department says Wisconsin will receive about $530 million from the stimulus to pay for highway projects, with millions more for transit and aeronautics.

The money is being used to accelerate start dates on various projects and pay for a variety of transportation grant programs.

The department also says it plans to apply for about $500 million in stimulus money to implement high speed passenger rail service between Milwaukee and Madison.
