ST. PAUL, Minnesota (WXOW) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says locks and dams on the Upper Mississippi River will close to navigation on December 7th.
Winter maintenance work is planned on many of the 13 locks and dams run by the St. Paul District between St. Paul and Guttenberg, Iowa. Warmer weather has allowed a longer season than normal according to a news release. The average end date of the season is November 30.
In Trempealeau and La Crescent, the locks and dams are closed until March 9 so work crews can install bulkhead slots.
Lock and Dam 3, in Red Wing, is closed until March 29th for a $70 million renovation project. The lock's upper guidewall will be extended 800 feet. Work on embankments is also planned.
