St. Paul, MN (WXOW) -
Cuts to education and cities are on the horizon in Minnesota, to deal with a $1.2 billion deficit.
Governor Tim Pawlenty says many states are in the same economic tight spot.
The current recession has hit individuals as well as state governments.
Cuts in spending are the only way Pawlenty says this deficit can be fixed.
He says he plans to start with school districts and cities who he says are spending way too much money.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty said "Our state is not immune from the historic national economic crisis, but we will do all that we can to make sure that Minnesota climbs out of this crisis as quickly as possible."
Minnesota Democrats say they have a different approach to fix the state budget.
They'd like to see a jobs bill introduced immediately to help stimulate the state economy.
