ATLANTA (WKOW) -- Top researchers at the American Cancer Society predict dramatic declines in colon and rectal cancer deaths in the coming decades, due in large part to better screening and treatments.
An annual cancer report shows cancer death rates overall continue to decline -- down roughly 20 percent in the last 10 years. And the new report predicts those numbers will drop even more over the next decades, even reaching half what it was in 2000 by 2020.
Some experts are skeptical of that optimism, saying such a large drop would require far-reaching changes in how many people can change their diet, access health insurance and find good medical care.
