LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- Buying a dress for prom is exciting, but not everyone can afford their dream dress.
The YWCA of the Coulee Region is opening a dress sale for ten days so girls can find affordable, fashionable dresses.
They range from $5 to $50, and there are shoes, handbags and jewelry available too.
The shop opens Saturday, March 6th, and is located at 326 Pearl St. in downtown La Crosse.
All the dresses are new or gently used and were donated to several dress drives hosted by the YWCA.
There are plenty of dresses to pick from because 350 were donated.
Tracie Stinson, the teen services coordinator for the YWCA says, "The point is so girls can find an affordable dress and go to their prom, and don't feel like they have to go out and get the $400 dollar dress. They can still come and find a dress that's in style and be a part of the big day."
All the money made from the sale benefits the two teen service programs at the YWCA. The BRIDGES program is for at risk girls and provides them with a mentor and weekly group activities. The Teen Leadership Empowerment Achievement Development scholarship program provides leadership activities and scholarships to high school juniors.
The dress sale ends on Saturday, March 14th.
