MILWAUKEE (AP) - Former Green Bay Packer Jerry Kramer has tried several times over the last 42 years to get his book about legendary Packers coach Vince Lombardi made into a big screen movie.
And now it could be a reality with this week's announcement that Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro has signed on to the project. But the 74-year old is still hesitant to believe the movie will be completed.
Kramer and the late sportswriter Dick Schaap wrote "Instant Replay." The movie, called "Lombardi," will chronicle the years in which Lombardi transformed the Packers into 5-time NFL champions.
But Kramer admitted being optimistic, noting the popularity of the movie "The Blind Side," the NFL and the Green Bay Packers' enthusiasm and having De Niro sign on.
It's being developed by ESPN Films, Andell Entertainment and the NFL.
