ONALASKA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - A local counseling center is looking at a way of using a nationally-recognized program to help at-risk youth in the La Crosse community. Stein Counseling in Onalaska has been trying for months to get involved in the Pepsi Refresh grant program.
The grant would help build what they say will be a comprehensive youth center in La Crosse. The center would work with other local agencies to offer therapeutic healing and mentoring for severely at-risk youth.
Program coordinator Devon Chesebro said the $250,000 from Pepsi would go entirely to the benefit of the community.
Chesebro said, "It's really to protect the future of the community and the youth. It's for at-risk youth in our community--so, really offering them services to make them more productive members."
To earn the grant, they need to earn more public votes than hundreds of projects throughout the nation. Voting for these projects runs through the end of August.
