MADISON (WKOW)-- Parents have a 3-week window to apply to send their children to any school district in Wisconsin.
The February 1st through 19th open enrollment application period is the only tuition-free opportunity for most parents to apply for their children to attend public school in a school district other than the one in which they live.
Since the program began, participation in open enrollment has grown. During the 2008-09 school year, 28,028 students transferred to another school district through open enrollment.
"The open enrollment program is an important way for parents to be involved in their children's education, helping them choose an option that will help every child graduate with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in the workforce or further education," said State Superintendent Tony Evers.
Parents will learn by April 9th whether their open enrollment applications were approved or denied.
