Wausau home explosion; fire crews are calling it suspicious

WAUSAU(WAOW)--Fire crews responded to a home explosion on Wausau's northeast side of town Friday night.

Wausau's Fire Chief Gary Buchberger says the call came in around 10:20 p.m. fire crews responded to the address of 516 Chicago Avenue.

Chief Buchberger says no one was injured or home at the time of the explosion but he is calling the fire suspicious. He says several explosions went off while his crews were inside the home. Chief Buchberger says he evacuated his fire crews outside the home to take on a more defensive approach.

Dennis Peterson, of 408 Chicago Avenue says he was walking his dog when he heard multiple explosions followed by the smell of smoke.

"The house was a ball of flames, the fire busted out the windows," said Peterson.
