LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- Another push is underway to encourage biking and pedestrian lanes on the new I-90 Mississippi River Bridge.
The La Crosse Area Planning Committee voted unanimously to urge planners to include the lanes in the project.
That recommendation comes despite the fact that neither Minnesota DOT nor the Wisconsin DOT has included those lanes in its design proposals.
At a meeting on Wednesday night, the public had the chance to speak out.
Transportation officials from both states were also on hand.
Bike trail supporters say more bikes mean more tourism, fewer cars, and therefore less wear on the roadways.
Plans call for construction to begin next Spring, and be completed in 2015.
