KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Alcides Escobar hit a two-run triple as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Minnesota Twins 6-3 yesterday. Escobar's triple highlighted a four-run seventh. The inning also included Jarrod Dyson's run-scoring single. Dyson stole second and third and scored on catcher Eric Fryer's throwing error.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Maya Moore scored 20 points to power the Minnesota Lynx past Phoenix 75-67 last night. The Lynx victory snapped the Mercury's franchise-record 16-game win streak. Seimone Augustus added 19 points for Minnesota.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Minnesota Twins recalled first baseman Kennys Vargas from Double-A New Britain yesterday. Vargas hit .281 with 17 doubles, 17 home runs and 63 RBIs in 97 games with New Britain. He has a career .288 average in the minors and has never played in the majors.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Minnesota Twins have signed All-Star catcher Kurt Suzuki to a two-year, $12 million contract extension. Suzuki has been one of the few bright spots for the Twins this season. He is hitting .304 with two home runs and 41 RBIs.
