Zierden ready for 15th annual hoops camp for kids

La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW)  This is usually "down" time for NBA players.

But thanks to the current lockout it's an unexpected break for the league's coaches.

Normally, Don Zierden would be coaching the Washington Wizards summer league team in Las Vegas.

But he can't have any contact with players now.

So the former La Crosse Catbirds and Bobcats coach was in town recently to promote his upcoming camp for kids.

It's August 1st through the 4th.

Zierden could be fined a million dollars if he talks about the lockout.

So, instead, we asked him about the Bucks draft day moves that brought them Beno Udrih and Stephen Jackson.

"John Hammond was the asst. general manager when Flip and I were there.  So we keep an eye on that. Obviously, they felt it was important to make that trade. We like them picking up Udrih. Stephen Jackson is a veteran that can provide them some leadership and some scoring. Like any other trade I think it takes a while. We all love to prognosticate how it's going to work out but until they actually get on the floor and play together that remains to be seen," Zierden said.

The Coach Z Hoop Camp is for kids ages 5-14 and all abilities.

It's at the La Crosse Center.

Zierden will also award two partial college scholarships to former campers.
