LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- The La Crosse Sheriff's Department says one man is arrested after leading authorities on a high speed chase on Interstate 90 from Wisconsin into Minnesota.

La Crosse Police were notified of a person of interest in a shoplifting incident in Oakdale, Wisconsin; that suspect produced a knife and threatened to cut the store manager at Love's Truck Stop.

Authorities say the man then fled in a vehicle and headed west on Interstate 90.

Wisconsin State Troopers spotted the vehicle near West Salem.

A traffic stop was attempted at French Island exit, however the suspect displayed an obscene gesture and sped away at speeds over 80 miles per hour.

Minnesota authorities set up a road block and arrested Michael Thomas Witwer, age 33 of Greencastle, Pennsylvania.

Authorities say he was in possession of a nine-inch knife.

Charges are pending in Monroe County, however those details have not been released at this time.
