LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- The Wisconsin Department of Tourism is collecting mittens for charity.
The mitten collection campaign was inspired by the mitten-like shape of Wisconsin. The collection is a partnership with Michigan, another mitten-shaped state.
Anyone who wants to make a donation can bring gloves or mittens to a Wisconsin Welcome Center.
In La Crosse, you can bring donations to the Welcome Center on eastbound I-90, at French Island or the Welcome Center in Riverside Park.
"Go out and buy a pair of gloves, a pair of mittens, donate them and we'll turn around and give them to the Salvation Army and New Horizons," said Dave Clements of the La Crosse Area Visitors Bureau. "And you'll get a warm feeling of giving and somebody in need gets a nice little gift for Christmas."
You can donate through January 15.
