Lake City police officer shot during standoff

LAKE CITY, Minn. (KTTC) -- A Lake City police officer is in critical condition after being shot Monday morning during.

Multiple crews responded to a report of an officer down around 8:40 a.m. on the 600 block of West Lyon Avenue.  The officer was responding to a domestic situation.

At a news conference Monday morning, investigators said the officer was shot in the head and is in critical condition at Saint Marys Hospital.

The neighborhood near the scene has been evacuated, while crews trying and make contact with the suspect inside the home.

Several schools including St. John's Ev. Lutheran School, Lincoln High, middle schools and Bluff View Elementary have been locked down.  Doors to the buildings and classroom doors are locked, shades are drawn and students have been told to stay away from windows.

Officers and deputies from all over southeastern Minnesota are on the scene, including Lake City, Goodhue and Wabasha counties, SWAT Teams from Olmsted and Wabasha counties and the Minnesota State Patrol.
