La Crosse, WI (WXOW) ------ "The Jefferson Awards" are the Nobel prizes for public service and a prestigious award that honors volunteers in the community. This month we recognize Al Pedrazoli , a man who to many is a plumber, a builder or a handy man. But to all who know him he is a life saver.
Ask Marilyn Lippstreu who she nominated for a Jefferson Award and she'll say, "Al Pedrazoli-this guy has helped me ever since 1996......I can't live without him."
Al Pedrazoli is a jack of all trades......and even though he works full time at Northern Engraving in Sparta...... He has a hankering for fixing things..... Well, mostly for fixing - things - for - people.
"When it's all said and done and things are working again and they're happy with it. That's when I feel the best because I've accomplished something to make their life better."
In her nomination letter, Marilyn listed all the things al has done for people, all without asking for anything in return. And every weekend.....and sometimes even on his vacation days.......Al volunteers with Habitat for Humanity. He's been doing that for the past 12 years.
He also volunteers with "Causeway"......another place where he finds a way to fix things for people lacking the funds to make home repairs themselves. To Al, this is the secret to happiness.
"When you help someone that really truly needs your help you get a good feeling. You know you've done something good for somebody and you can go home feeling good about that."
Since it's inception in 1972, The Jefferson Awards has been based a simple idea ----- that one person can make a difference. To nominate someone for a Jefferson Award go to wxow.com and click on the Jefferson Awards tab.
