Sparta, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Sparta Police on Monday released more information about the shooting of a man by a police officer on January 19th.
We learned the names of those involved, and what the 911 caller said before hanging up.
Last Thursday night shortly after 10pm, Sparta police received a 9-1-1 call where a male caller simply gave an address; 416 Austin Street, and then hung up. Police responded to that address and found 19-year-old Jacob Olsen outside the home, armed with a rifle.
Officers ordered Olsen to put the rifle down. Instead, he pointed the gun toward Sgt Booker Ferguson. Ferguson fired his handgun, striking Olsen, who remains hospitalized.
Ferguson, a nine year veteran of the force, is on administrative leave.
