STANLEY, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Governor Walker traveled to Stanley-Boyd Elementary School in the Eau Claire area Thursday afternoon to promote his "Read to Lead" initiative.
Walker read Dr. Seuss to 3rd grade students at the school. His initiative is designed to improve students' reading skills before they reach the 4th grade.
In Wednesday night's State of the State address, Governor Walker thanked teachers and spent some time with the topic of education.
He did not, however, spend much time talking about unifying a divided state.
Governor Walker said Thursday, "There are some folks politically who don't want us to be united. There are some folks politically who want the state to be divided. We've decided we weren't going to spend our attention commenting on that but instead, talk about things where we are working together."
The governor spoke with some staff members and received a tour of the school during his stay.
