Trempealeau County (WQOW) - Another company wants to mine sand in western Wisconsin.
Carbo Ceramics, based in Texas, is interested in mining in Trempealeau County, in the Town of Chimney Rock, about seven miles southwest of Eleva.
There's an informational meeting about the proposal on Monday night at the Independence State Bank. Representatives from Carbo Ceramics will be there. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.
This industry is growing at a high rate. Fourth quarter earnings for Carbo Ceramics were up 32-percent from a year ago. In the past year, 11 frac sand mines and a processing plant have been approved in Trempealeau County. Four have opened.
