La Crosse, WI (WXOW) - A La Crosse man was given a 20 year commitment as the result of beating his girlfriend last summer.
59-year old Gregory Moris has been in jail since August 2, 2011, but was found not guilty due to mental illness.
Police say that on July 29th, he attacked his 59 year old girlfriend with a cane, referring to himself as the devil before attacking her.
The woman suffered serious injuries. Moris has a history of mental illness.
Today Judge Elliot Levine sentenced Moris to a 20 year commitment with initial placement in a mental illness hospital with the Department of Health Services.
Levine also ordered Moris not to contact the victim or the victim's family.
