
La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) -A strong second half surge by UW-Whitewater ended any hopes of a UW-La Crosse upset as the Eagles fell to the fourth ranked Warhawks 72-62 on Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall.
Chris Davis led the way for Whitewater with 27 points and 12 rebounds.
UW-La Crosse opened the game with an 18-9 lead before UW-Whitewater went on a 10-0 run. The game was tied eight times in the first half including at halftime.
UW-Whitewater then began the second half on a 14-2 to take a lead they would never relinquish. The Eagles cut the deficit to 62-58 with 3:03 remaining, but that would be as close as they would get. The Warhawks ended the game by going 6-of-6 from the free throw line to close things out.
Cory Degner led the Eagles with 17 points.
The loss drops UW-La Crosse to 5-6 in the WIAC and 13-7 overall. UW-Whitewater improves to 10-2 in the WIAC and 19-2 overall.
Next up, the Eagles will travel to UW-Stevens Point to take on the Pointers.
