LA CROSSE,WI(WXOW)--More than 70 students from 15 area schools received hands on health care experience.
The eighth annual Healthcare Career Extravaganza is put on by the Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare each year. High school juniors and seniors who are interested in a career in the health care field apply to go.
Students experience everything from nursing and respiratory care to rehab services and lab work.
"We've experienced some retirements already so we have been hiring quite a few people right now especially in nursing but we have so many other careers too in health care which again the students are experiencing today," said Recruitment Assistant, Kari Miles.
"Well I think that it's a great opportunity to learn more about the health care opportunities. I don't really know what I want to do after this but I'm getting a lot of great experience and learning a lot of different stuff here," said Junior Hannah Bartels from Luther High School.
Miles said they've seen great results from the career extravaganza. Many high school students who've attended in the past actually work within the Mayo Health System now.
